Review

When forced to start working in the city, suddenly alienated from her childhood, Faten begins her new life with fear and hesitation. She is mad at her parents who forced her to leave the village and all she’s ever known behind. In Beirut, Faten works as a maid in an apartment, where she meets Dalia, a girl her age. Faten witnesses Dalia’s conflicts with her traditional parents, their plans for an arranged marriage and her subsequent surrender to their will and society’s rules. Faten also meets Marwan, a young man she falls in love with, but he too fails to break free from his parents’ will.

Beirut, the city of war and early end of Faten’s childhood, is also the place where Faten finds love and friendship. It is where she will struggle to change her fate and realize her dreams.
